Founders Day brought hundreds of people to downtown of Auburn today. Genesee Street was lined with  antique and classic automobiles.

StoryWalk - A Pet for Fly Guy

The goal of the Seymour Library's StoryWalk program is to promote summer reading and exercise with one simultaneous activity.

The third book installed at Hoopes Park is A Pet for Fly Guy. Tedd Arnold's signature illustration style and fun story will appeal to fans of the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling Fly Guy reader series as well as young readers discovering Fly Guy for the first time.

Annual Franklin Trek - Cazenovia College

The Franklin Trek made its annual visit to Cazenovia NY this week. Since the classic automobile owners would be bringing their nostalgia to the Cazenovia College quad, Michael invited us to drove down and see the cars.

The group's agenda today included a road trip to the Colgate Inn in Hamilton NY. So there were only a corporal's guard of automobiles present on campus.

Michael took us to lunch in the school cafeteria. We were surprised by the selection. Definitely not the college cuisine that we recall from our college years. In the food line Michael introduced us to Brett.

There was a photo gallery of past treks near the cafeteria.

After lunch we went out on the quad and viewed the Franklins. There Michael introduced us to Jeff and Lisa.

Since Michael had to return to work, we said our Goodbyes. Making our way to the car, we stopped at a yard sale. There Joan spotted a child's wooden rocking horse for $5.

While she paid the homeowner, I went to get our car. On the way, I introduced myself to Stefan, the head groundskeeper. Told him how attractive the campus was. Stefan credited his great staff for the work. He also gave me a formula to prevent the deer from eating our flower garden.

We returned home by way of the East Lake Road driving into Owera Vineyards for a quick look. Passing Gannons on our way through Syracuse was tempting but we fought off the urge.

Another great road trip.

The American Travelling Morrice

The American Travelling Morrice, an international dance ensemble presented free performances of ritual English dances. The group made a swing through the Cayuga County area Saturday, Aug. 2.

Morris dancing is an old English country tradition performed using sticks or handkerchiefs. The American Travelling Morrice ensemble, composed of U.S., Canadian and English dancers, has toured America and England every summer since 1976.

The American Travelling Morrice performed at 3PM at the Seward House Museum, 33 South St., Auburn.

Although the crowd was meager the dancing troupe gave its all.

Week Thirty-Two - 20 To Go

Set in San Francisco in 1895, the Carpenter and Quincannon, Professional Detective Services finds itself involved in two separate cases that in the end become one and the same. While the storyline may prove simple and predictable, the descriptive passages of California living at the turn of the century makes this an enjoyable read.

A Reread, Too!

Since we recently journeyed on the Erie Canal, recalled our visits to Niagara Falls. So requested a copy of this volume from Seymour Library. Read this book back in September of 2012.

Hey, it's Chris Van Allsburg. Always splendid illustrations. A plus for this book is its historical thrust (Annie Edson Taylor is the only woman to have gone over Niagara Falls alone (1901)). If you have been to Niagara Falls, a must read. If you have not been to Niagara Falls, make it a vacation destination and take this book along.
