Due to the verbose plot, this may not be the best WWI Nurse Bess Crawford Mystery. But a delightful new character, Australian Sergeant Larimore, saves the day.

Helen Brann did a good job of picking up the ball and completing this Spenser novel. But Helen Brann is no Ace Atkins. While the voice is close to that of Spenser, the book comes up short regarding the Spenser humor.



Week Forty-Seven - 5 to Go

Desperate measures, indeed. Placing the focus of this novel on the murders of several blonde females, Stuart Woods desperately attempts to fill pages with a shallow story line. But true to Barrington's material wealth, the crew (Dino, Viv, and Stone’s latest tryst) visit swanky restaurants, use custom cars, and provide housing for Stone’s employees.


Week Forty-Nine - 3 to Go

Stan Lee, a cultural icon, was born Stanley Lieber. Bob Batchelor notes how Lee’s wife, Joanie, played a decisive role in encouraging him to become a comic book revolutionary. Bob Batchelor did well in presenting this account of a legend.
