Marcia Muller uses an interesting technique to differentiate her chapters. Each one bears the name of the person who is most prominent in that chapter. Storyline is edgy but short, choppy chapters and one-liners take their toll. Muller has done better.

Robert Fulghum on page 112 of his bestseller, It Was On Fire When I Lay Down On It, quotes the words heard at the pearly gates Monday evening 24th of October 2005. “Ah, Rosa Parks, we’ve been expecting you. Make yourself at home---take any seat in the house.”

Nearly 50 years ago, Dec. 1, 1955, Parks challenged the South's Jim Crow laws -- and Montgomery's segregated bus seating policy -- by refusing to get up and give her seat to a white passenger.

Impressive - how doing nothing could cause so much activity.

Pine Grove Community Church

The little church at the crossroads, known as the Pine Grove Union Church was built by Lucian Rumble, a local caretaker. Rumble also acted as the architect for the church. The design of the interior was copied from a little theater Rumble had once seen. Building was started in 1896 at a cost of about $134.00.

The chairs and pulpit were given by Mrs. Wormwood, and Mrs. Hill.

Choir Loft

The church is known for its unusual interior, seats are arranged on a sloping floor as in a theater, necessitating cutting off the rear legs a bit. Accordingly, to enter, one must walk to the front of the church to climb the slope up to one's seat. It has been pointed out that "everyone" would know if you were late for church.

Church Organ

The organ was purchased from the Baptists of Lowville who were acquiring a bigger one for their newly built church. 

Steeple

A bell was purchased in 1905.

Taking advantage of the sunny day, Joan and I went for our annual trek to Tim's Pumpkin Patch.

We purchased some Indian corn, several gourds and seven pumpkins.

Went to the animal pens.

As we were leaving the store a gentleman inquired about my camera. Turns out he was formerly a wedding photographer. Introducing ourselves we discovered that his name was Marty Cameron and his wife was Joanne. They live in Dewitt. We visited for awhile and Marty shared information about two cameras that he recently bought at Best Buy.

After stopping at Rita to leave her a molasses cookie we returned home.

The Church Basement Ladies (in the Last Potlcuk Supper)

This evening Joan and I attended our fifth play of the 2014 season, The Church Basement Ladies (in the Last Potlcuk Supper). Waiting to enter the theater a woman approached me and asked, "Where was I from?" I told her Auburn. It seems a bus of senior citizens from Wisconsin were in the audience tonight.

Inspired by the books of Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson, including the best seller “Growing Up Lutheran.” Written by Greta Grosch. Music and lyrics by Drew Jansen.

Those lovable Church Basement Ladies are back, one last time, for the last (potluck) supper.

One of the highlights were the three 1897 flashbacks featuring Grandma Nokleby.

While the play provided a nice conclusion to this series, hopefully the gals will produce a sequel or prequel.

Facts:

This is the Regional Premiere of the Church Basement Ladies: The Last Potluck Supper.

All five installments of Church Basement Ladies have originated at the Plymouth Playhouse in Minnesota.

This show was inspired by the Emmy winning documentary Delafield, which was produced by Mark Bolin and follows the disintegration of his rural church that was once a "source of continuity" togenerations of farm families.

Leaf-Peepin' 2014 - Part V

At 7 AM we looked out the kitchen window at Camp Michael to see that today was going to be a clear one. When we got outside we found that it was also going to be chilly.

Joan took me to the Pioneer Cafe for breakfast. Our waitress was familiar with food allergies; so she made sure that Joan's breakfast was gluten and dairy free. We both had the spinach omelet. Mine had feta cheese with a homemade English muffin. Added a fresh sticky bun which we took home (would share it with Bradley tomorrow).

Fill up with gas at Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppe on River Road and bought the Sunday paper.

Pulled into the Wagon Wheel Antiques on Number Four road. 

Bev Howlett, the proprietor, greeted us. She and her husband also had breakfast at the Pioneer Cafe. We stopped here yesterday, and after thinking about things we decided to buy a pie safe and a old croquet set.

After tiding up around the Camp Michael, we went for a walk to Francis Lake and Spillway at Moshier Dam.

The geocache at Francis Lake is in good shape.

Packed. Did a Camp Michael walk through. Headed to Charlene and Roger's home. Visited for about an hour. Left and went over Tug Hill. Arrived at 88 safely.
