Maya Angelou

 Sarah Jean Condon, The Citizen

Maya Angelou, greeted by a sold-out crowd this evening, expressed her excitement to be in Auburn with these words, "Auburn has an atmosphere of courage. I couldn't wait to get here."

Angelou made the trek to Auburn, the resting place of Harriet Tubman, by bus from Winston-Salem North Carolina.

Joan and Lori along with Rita and Joanie were in attendance. Although the acoustics of the tired high school auditorium made for a trying listening experience, they were thrilled with Angelou's poise and wisdom.

What most impressed Joan was Angelou's admonition to be 'to be a rainbow in someone's cloud'.
