Birding - Canandaigua

Finger Lakes Community College Trail

Arrived in Canandaigua ahead of the scheduled 9 AM meeting of the Eaton Birding Society in the Finger Lakes Community College parking lot. Drove west on Lake Shore Drive to the community pier. Took some photos.
Returned to the FLCC parking lot to find 8 Eaton Birding members walking toward the trailhead. Right off the bat the group located a Pileated Woodpecker. During the course of the walk the group would also see a Downy Woodpecker and a Hairy Woodpecker. Other highlights on this somewhat quiet day were tree sparrows and a Great Black-backed Gull.

The forest floor proved to be the star of the day.
After breakfast at the Village Diner, retraced my journey. While driving East on Lake Shore, two windsurfers caught my attention. Parked and took some photos.
While passing through Seneca Falls, drove down to Van Cleef Lake. Numerous birds -  Canada Geese, Mallards, Ring-billed Gulls, Hooded Mergansers, and a Great Black-backed Gull.

Detoured north on Rt. 89 and visited the Knox-Marcellus Marsh lookout. Hundreds of Tundra Swans were on the ice with several Mallards. Snow Geese were flying overhead.

All in all another good day of birding.
