This
mural is on the outside wall of the Old Brutus Historical Society
Musem. This 11' x 26' mural was painted by Dawn Jordan of Weedsport,
NY. The mural depicts the Erie Canal of the early 1900s. The
location depicted in the mural is just down the road on Erie Drive
(Route 31), facing towards the traffic light. The Erie Canal would
have run behind the buildings where you now see Route 31. The bridge
connected Brutus Street where the traffic light is now located .
Several of the buildings can still be seen today. The steam powered tug
which is shown had to lower its smoke stack so it had the clearance
needed to get under the bridge. The Historial Society Museum is
located at 8943 North Seneca Street (Route 34) in Weedsport, NY.
