42nd Street
Joan and I returned to the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse this evening to take in Producing Director Ed Sayles' presentation of “42nd Street”.
Before there was “A Chorus Line” in 1975, there was the 1933 film, “42nd Street”, starring Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler. Then in 1980, David Merrick brought the Busby Berkeley choreography film to the stage. Now in summer of 2011 the Merry-Go Round Playhouse performs this classic for its Finger Lakes audience.
If dance, spelled TAP, is your definition of musical theater, "42nd Street" will not be a disappointment. The tap numbers by the 16-member crackerjack dance ensemble is as one local theater critic described "consistently jaw-dropping".
As Ed Sayles stated allowed in his introduction, “It’s OK to move your feet under your seat”. Joan and I did.
Previous production this summer:
Anything Goes
Hairspray!
Cooking with the Calamari Sisters: Mangia Italiano!
