Birding - Sterling Nature Center

Dogwood Extension Trail

Arrived at Sterling Nature Center at a quarter to one. Visited with Jim DeAngelo, who identified a butterfly and a wildflower that I had previously photographed on the Auburn-Fleming Trail.

Blue Jays flocked around the Center's bird feeders, and I spotted an Eastern Kingbird nearby.
At 1 PM, our group of six stepped off being led by Jim.
The highlights were a Pileated Woodpecker (flew right ovehead), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (three), Northern Rough-winged Swallow (flying over Lake Ontario by Bluff Trail).

Jim pointed out several of the flora that graced the forest floor.
Trout Lily
Red Trillium
Sharp-Lobed Hepatica
???
On the Bluff Trail we encountered two walkers.
Overlooking the bluffs Jim pointed out how large rocks were pushed ashore by the thick winter ice.
Along the trail there was a Morning Cloak Butterfly. Jim noted that they winter over as an adult.
Another great day for birding.
