On the Town

This evening Joan and I attended our third play of the 2014 season, On The Town. Once in our seats we observed that the crowd that filled the playhouse was going to be appreciative one.

The highlights of this production for us were the "I Understand" fiance of of Clair De Loone Pitkin W. Bridgework (David Studwell) and the dipsomaniac vocal teacher (Rebecca Carr).

Facts:

  • On the Town is based on the ballet Fancy Free by Jerome Robbins.
  • The MGM film of On the Town opened on December 8, 9149, starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.
  • The film replaced all but three of the original Broadway songs with Hollywood-written substitutes.
  • A Broadway revival of On the Town is expected to open at the Lyric Theatre this fall, previewing on September 20 and officially opening on October 16, 2014.
